Benefits of Sports Massage:
  • Improves blood flow; removes toxins
  • Relieves Pyschological and Physiological Stress
  • Aids Injury Recovery
  • Improves Flexibility and Range of Motion
  • Reduces Muscle Tension and Soreness

SPORTS MASSAGE

Sports massage is a targeted functional massage for loosening tight, pulled or aching muscles and so relieving pain. It is ideal for post-training, after a strenuous work-out, or if you've been on a long hike, to decrease stiffness and enhance flexibility.
Treatment is for one or two focussed areas of the body, whether you overdid it in the garden, training, or from a recurring problematic area.
Generally recognised as the "no pain, no gain" treatment, some manoeuvres may test your resolve. The intention is to restore movement and kick-start healing by treating tight restricted structures and soft tissue. I aim to help you manage your muscles more effectively and efficiently so that you can quickly return to activity or training.
Regular Sports Maintenance Massage is great for your physical conditioning, in preparation for a sporting goal, or to prevent injuries.

This type of massage can help relieve pain and discomfort. For example:
  • Back Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Arm or Shoulder Pain
  • Posture Problems
  • Sciatic Pain and Piriformis Syndrome
  • Tight Hamstrings and Calf Muscles

MASSAGE FOR INJURIES

This is the best option if you have sustained an injury, a tweak or a strain and are now in some discomfort. This is the alternative to Sports Massage if you want a milder approach!
I may look at general posture holding patterns to inform and assess what your needs are. Some of the techniques I will use are listed below.
  • General Swedish Massage - to palpate the working area and warm superficial muscle groups.
  • Deep-Tissue Massage – to warm, realign, and stretch soft tissue at the deeper levels. Releasing tension and tightness.
  • Muscle Energy Techniques – to stretch and manipulate specific muscle groups.
  • Soft Tissue Release – to ease and release superficial tissues, tendons and muscles.

ACUPUNCTURE FOR INJURIES

This a great treatment for injuries and strains where tight muscle is restricting movement. It involves the insertion of very fine medical grade needles into specific predetermined
points on the body. It is an excellent option for persistent pain patterns, repetitive strain and 'named' conditions. This does involve palpation, stretching and some massage of the treatment area, to aid movement and release.
  • Sciatic Pain and Piriformis Syndrome
  • Frozen Shoulder / Elbow / Forearm Tightness
  • Low Back Pain / Hips / Buttocks
  • Tight Hamstrings and Calf Muscles
  • Plantar Fasciitis

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR APPOINTMENT

I always begin by carrying out a full consultation to assess your suitability for treatment, and your reasons for the appointment. Also to discover what your treatment goals, and gathering any relevant information or background to your injury or pain.

Depending on the type of treatment, I will also carry out a posture analysis to identify any postural or gait imbalances at your initial consultation. I work on postural imbalances brought about by your daily routine, habits, and training that may cause a shortening or tightening of muscles.

Using the information from your consultation, I use different techniques to ensure effective treatment. This may include a combination of deep tissue massage, energy techniques, stretching, neuromuscular techniques, and soft tissue release so that a better result may be achieved.

Please note that all treatments on this page require some level of undress to shorts or underwear. Only the treatment area will be exposed.

After treatment, we can review your goals and objectives and devise a treatment plan on how to move forward in helping you back to fitness. Where appropriate, I may suggest any stretching and warm-up techniques to enable you to manage your own recovery.
